Ten tiers, three independent gates
Ascendancy classifies every simulation into one of ten heroes, from NOVA at the start to SOVEREIGN at the apex. Each tier has its own minimum thresholds for WPM, accuracy and consistency, and — critically — you need to clear all three to unlock it. There's no averaging your way past a weak metric with a strong one.
Why it's built this way
A typing performance metric that only measured speed would reward reckless typing. One that only measured accuracy would reward typing so slowly that mistakes are trivially avoidable. Consistency alone would reward someone who types the same mediocre pace the whole way through. Requiring all three together is what makes a classification actually mean something.
Reading your own progress
Your Ascendant Console shows your current classification along with a progress ring toward the next tier. That ring is driven by whichever of the three metrics you're furthest from clearing — if your WPM already qualifies for NEXUS but your consistency doesn't, consistency is your bottleneck, not speed.
Classification uses your best run, not an average
Your leaderboard score and current hero are both driven by your single best verified simulation, not a rolling average. One excellent run outweighs ten mediocre ones. This means it's worth occasionally running a simulation purely focused on a personal best rather than always training incrementally.
The archive is deterministic
Every threshold in the Classification Archive is fixed and public — there's no hidden curve or moving target. If you clear NEXUS's thresholds today, you'll clear them next week too, regardless of how the rest of the network is performing. Your classification is about your performance against a fixed bar, not a ranking against other people (that's what the separate leaderboard is for).
Common misconception: consistency isn't about being slow
A lot of people assume "consistency" means capping their own speed to avoid variance. It actually measures how steady your pace is relative to your own average — a sustained 90 WPM the whole way through scores just as well on consistency as a sustained 40 WPM. The goal isn't to type slowly on purpose, it's to avoid the burst-then-crash pattern.
Worked example: reading your own bottleneck
Say your last run was 88 WPM, 93% accuracy, 68% consistency. Checking it against NEXUS (85 WPM · 93% accuracy · 72% consistency, per the full threshold table): WPM clears (88 ≥ 85), accuracy clears exactly (93% ≥ 93%), but consistency falls short (68% < 72%). Your progress ring toward NEXUS would show consistency as the bottleneck — not because your WPM or accuracy need work, they've already cleared the bar, but because your pace isn't holding steady enough across the run. That's the diagnostic value described above: the ring points at the one metric actually worth training next, instead of leaving you to guess.
Frequently Asked Questions
If two of my three metrics already clear a tier, how close am I really?
Closer than a single composite score would suggest, but still not there — all three have to clear together, with no partial credit. See the worked example above for exactly how a run can miss a tier by a single lagging metric even when the other two comfortably qualify.
Does grinding out more runs raise my classification faster than fewer, more focused ones?
Not necessarily. Since your classification is your single best verified run, one excellent, focused attempt can outweigh ten mediocre ones. Occasionally running a session purely aimed at a personal best is a legitimate strategy alongside incremental practice, not a shortcut around it.
My consistency score confuses me — does typing slower on purpose help it?

Why does my classification look different across two languages I practice?
Because classification is tracked entirely separately per language — your English tier says nothing about your Spanish tier, or any other language. Each one accumulates its own best-run history independently.
